Thank you for choosing Cairn University! Below are resources on getting started with technology at Cairn. Please go through them and if you still have questions, contact us at email@example.com or call (215) 702-4554. Cairn students are granted access to a broad base of technology applications. As a member of the University community, the student exercises the rights, privileges and responsibilities of conduct that conform to Community Life and Standards and the policies set forth by the University. Impropriety may result in the curtailment of technology privileges.
Students are provided a Cairn Gmail account. The account must first be activated by going to http://selfservice.cairn.edu and clicking on the Student/Alumni Password Change link at the left side of the page. Upon completing the required information, the Cairn Gmail username will be displayed, and the account may then be accessed at http://gmail.cairn.edu. Students will use the email username and password for all University cloud applications. Since the University will direct all email correspondence to the Cairn student Gmail account, the student is responsible for maintaining his/her account.
The Learning Management System is provided by the eLearning web application. Instructors may use eLearning in conjunction with traditional classroom instruction. Students may be required to retrieve course material and/or submit assignments via eLearning at http://elearning.cairn.edu. A tutorial along with various detailed guides are available on the front page of eLearning.
As of Summer 2013, Cairn students, faculty and staff have the capability to print from anywhere from any device including mobile devices to the Cairn Canon multifunction devices.
There are two methods to print remotely from any device anywhere:
- Via mobile print by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
- Via webprint by going to http://print.cairn.edu
Method 1: Mobile printing - easiest and recommended
With this method you as long as you can send an attachment from any computer, smartphone, tablet or any mobile device, you can print from anywwhere at Cairn. Basically the way it works is that you send the document as an attachment to email@example.com and then using your Cairn ID, you can release the print job in the Masland Library or computer labs (for the students) or at any Canon multifunction devices (for employees).
In order for this to work, all three conditions below must be met.
Periodic slowness of the on-campus student Internet is often the result of excessive torrent traffic, caused by the excessive use of peer-to-peer software. Such traffic and usage is in violation of University Internet usage policy and is strictly prohibited. In order to preserve the integrity and performance of our Internet connection for academic purposes and conventional bandwidth demands, it is necessary for the University to take action restricting such usage and offending users.
You are responsible for all activity that transpires through your devices connected to the Cairn network. Illegal downloads and content sharing may result in serious legal penalties, both civil and criminal. Civil penalties may include penalties from $750 to $30,000 per work that is infringed. Criminal penalties can include fines and imprisonment.
